History

Description

According to the inscription on the wooden base provided for each of these two marvelous red jade horses, this set of sculptures is "10/592" cast.  The pair of horses rests in a satin-padded case, blue silk on the outside with ivory clasps.  Each horse is about 5" long and 3" in height, weighing in at a little over a lb.  Each horse also comes with its own individual wooden base, with gold pattern detail on the side.  The bases are both inscribed with the casting information as well as the artist's signature, which is rather illegible.  The only clear letter in the signature is the first initial, a letter "G."  Currently seeking more information, if anyone is familiar with either the sculpture or its artists.  This pair of sculptures was received as a gift nearly 30 years ago and has been kept in excellent condition since.

Price Paid (If known)

Unknown

Size and Dimension

8in. tall by 5in. wide

Weight

Roughly 5 ponds (a piece)

Condition

History

It was purchased by a man (Mr. Macy) on one of his trips to the orient. We recieved these pieces upon his passing in the early 90's.

Description

Two statues (doubtful to be bookends) appear to be hand carved.  There are two asisan characters below their feet on the front (unsure what the characters mean) that are the same, so I doubt it says "king and queen" or anything of that nature.  Both words appear to be handwritten because there are apparent differences.  The "Emperor" is wearing a hat with a ball on top, sporting a traditional goatee - sitting on a throne covered with dragons and flowers.  He's holding a long set of beads in his left hand.  His garments are covered in dragons.  It also appears he's wearing some type of cape.  The "Empress" wears the same style hat with the ball on top and a long set of beads.  Instead of dragons, her throne is covered with Eagles and flowers and her dress is covered in flowers.  She holds a feather in her right hand.  Both statues have the same carving on the back "PAT."

Antiques, Collectibles, Memorabilia and Me

Submitted by grannysantiques on Sat, 06/28/2008 - 11:12.

I have been an antiques and memorabilia collector since I was about 5 so it was only natural that I would eventually start selling antiques, memorabilia and collectibles which I did 25 years ago.

Despite 4 years of college, years working as an x-ray tech and being a step away from entering law school... I am finally doing what I LOVE, selling antiques full time.

The artwork is blue, purple, green, with gold outlining everything. The designs are of grapes, pomegranate, and leaves. The inscription on the bottom looks like C&F Enterprises. I took the best possible pictures before batteries dying in camera. Not pictured but on the bottom of one candlestick is a round gold made in china tag, and a tage that says "article may poison the food, for decorative purposes only". Any help is appreciated.

Description

http://s293.photobucket.com/albums/mm42/kaitibaiti333/Vintage%20Nippon%20Hand%20Painted%20Baby%20Dish/

The design has three children dressed up in what looks to be a clown outfit or jester outfit. There are also three bunnies. The bunny on the upper right side is carrying a Japanese flag over his shoulder, although, it's hard to make out in the pictures, but you can make it out by the distinguishable red dot (Rising Sun). I have yet to find another piece by Nippon like this one, but would love to find one. Even with the worn paint this piece has so much character! I have no idea what this is worth, but am truly interested in finding out. Any idea would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

set dates approximately 1926 as this mark was initially registered

Description

This is an extract from an expert on Nortiake i spoke to who shall remain anonymous.

"your examples are significantly better quality than most examples I
have come across with this mark on them,

Your set dates approximately 1926 as this mark was initially registered
in Bombay in 1926 though this mark was used for many markets, such as
Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, the then Dutch East Indies, French Indo
China, British Raj India, the Dominion of South Africa, and many
others.  It has even been found in Israel which was formerly Palastine.

I have seen a very rare piece of blue desert scene with this mark and it
has a pattern number which was purchased from a family which bought the
set in 1927 and it was sold in Jerusalem.  It is also known that this
mark was shipped in small quantities to the United States, and to the
United Kingdom as well.

it is a a very beautiful set.  I am sure RC collectors would pay alot of money to get it.  Pieces with the red mark are less common than ones with either the blue or the green.  The green being the most common of backstamps
to be found with this mark.
