Am interested if you find an answer with this item. I have some of these pieces as well that were handed down to me by my grandmother. It would be of interest to find out there history and possibly any worth.

Well for starters, anything marked Nippon that's an original piece dates from 1891-1921, and of course is Japanese. Without a description of the mark there is not much else I can tell you of it's History or the company that made it.
