Given to family member, from someone who came over from Greece. We believe the box was made in celebration of the Greek independance. On the back is a cross with a bow and spear.
Long Description and Pictures (jpg, gif, png)
Appears to be a silver plate of St. George(the front) and was made into a box,
welded to another box to make it the way it looks now. A handle is on each side. One person
suggested it may have been a tea box. My husbands father who was greek, always told him there was a piece of Christs cross in the box. however, the box was opened to find two byzantine coins.

Re: St George box-Greek
Perhaps it is a snuff box, although it is quite narrow.
Re: St George box-Greek
Can one of the creators of this site kindly point me in the right direction? Id appreciate it.
What do you think it could be? Why does it have a handle on each side? Would a soldier or someone
have worn it around his neck? Thanks
Re: St George box-Greek
Ive submitted better pictures. Maybe someone will or can help me now...thanks!
