my father purchased this chair in Nebraska in the 1980's for his antique store. My mother then used it as her project in a furniture restoration class and was offered $500.00 for it at that time.

Long Description and Pictures (jpg, gif, png)

This rocker was purchased by my father in the 1980's and restored by my mother in a furnature restoration class.  when this was purchased it was painted black and the cane seat was almost gone. since it was restored it has been kept in a place where hands were not allowed to touch it at all. my mother was offered $500 for it in the 1980's and would love to know what it is worth now.

This chair has been in my family since the 1980's when it was purchased by my father for his antique business. At that time my mother was taking a class for furnature restoration and used this chair for her class project. When this chair was first purchased it was painted black and the cane seat was nearly gone completely. but through the restoration class my mother paid alot of attention to the detail on the back of the chair and used a nut pick to get all the paint out of the crevices of the design. then the teacher of the class offered to put in the cane seat because it was too advanced for my mother to do at the time. My father said that the chair is about 100 years old but was not exactly accurate. My parents would love to find out what this chair is worth now. When my mother restored it she was offered $500 for it and that was in the 1980's. could you please help me figure out what this is worth? I have done some checking in books and online and came up empty. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you so much for your help...

Press backs are a product of the turn of the 19th century, and were sought after items during the 1980's. Time moves on though, as does fashion and today pressbacks are selling for about half what they once were. Your rocker is in lovely condition though and would sell for about $300.00 today.

are you an appraiser? and how accurate is this estimate? im wondering if I should persue any more estimates...my father said it should be worth more than that. and I dont want to persue if this is a accurate amount. do you work for the instappraisal site? not trying to be rude, I just want to make sure! thank you for all your comments!Laughing
